As an entrepreneur, securing your business world includes protecting your family. The
director of Britain’s MI5 was exposed because of his wife’s postings on
Facebook.
What he knew as a secret (what his job was) had spilled over into his family and then been exposed.
In a small business you have
to worry about the spillover from business to family. If you've had your son blurt out loud at a company's name "Oh, that is the client that doesn't pay their bills" you have had a similar, yet less impactful or public issue. That spillover can happen to you online.
Not to mention that as a mom or dad you just need to keep your kids safe.
Most importantly in my mind is to be involved in your chidren's use of online media. My view is to let them have a little freedom to explore and make mistakes but watch closely enough to shepherd them through the tough spots. The end result is a child skilled in the online world who can protect themself and approach that world with practiced discernment. Other parents may opt just to disallow their children from the online world.
Regardless of your choice, the dangers online are real (but frankly I think statistically my boys are more likely to fall off the playground equipment than they are to encounter some of the dangers that make it into the news).
