The State of Ohio is hosting a Cyber Summit on February 17, 2010. A session is being held for small business and local government.

The summit will address the following questions:
- Do you fully understand the risks if you suffer a security lapse?
- Are your employees putting your business at risk?
- Could your brand be tarnished by cyber criminals if they hijacked your system?
- Can good Cyber Security give you a competitive advantage?
I am attending and will blog on the content afterward.
Should you go? I can't speak to the content, but I can speak to the importance of knowing the answers to the questions that will be addressed. Operating without understanding (and managing) the risks facing your business is a recipe for losing value.

Something I just noticed about the brochure rubs me the wrong way:
"Small business owners and local officials have competing priorities -- watching the bottom line, managing employees and serving customers/citizens."
As a small business owner I don't see those 3 as competing or exclusive. You have to focus on your customers, manage your employees in such a way that they do as well and then work to keep costs in line so that the revenue that customer focus creates delivers a positive bottom line, month in and month out.
Just a nit. And an oddly written clause in the brochure certainly isn't a sign to stay away. But sometimes I think those in government just don't get those of us in business.
